FAQ'S
How much does it cost?
Cost is dependent on many factors: size, height, access, landscape, rocks, roots, depth of grind, etc. The best way to get a cost estimate is to measure the stump (widest direction across at the grass) and give me a call. Another way is to text me some pictures – just be sure to include something on the stump for scale (like a water bottle). I provide estimates over the phone. If it seems reasonable to you, we schedule a visit. I’ll look it over and give you a fixed price. If the price is more than the estimate, there is no obligation or pressure to proceed. If the price is equal or less than the phone estimate, I expect you to have me do the work. Quantity discounts are standard. Repeat customers get discounts. Stumps less than 6″ near larger stumps are usually free. There is a $120 minimum charge for jobs more than 7 miles from Davisburg.
What about utilities?
If there is a chance any are near the stump(s), you should call Miss Dig 811 and have the areas marked. This is free and usually takes 4 days or less. However, they do not mark sprinkler lines, propane lines, invisible dog fence lines, etc. Those are the homeowners responsibility to mark or repair if damaged during the grinding process. Internet/cable TV lines are the most common problem because they are buried very shallow and are often routed right next to trees. Fortunately we can usually predict their route between where they enter the home and the green service box or pole they come from.
Will your machine damage my lawn?
My equipment has 6 wide tires designed to be turf friendly. If the ground is severely saturated to the point I may leave ruts in the lawn – I will suggest we re-schedule for drier times. What about the ground up stump material?
I rake that into a pile for you to dispose of. Being a mixture of dirt and wood chips, this organic material is great for gardens, building up low areas and mulching under bushes or trees. If you desire, you can ask me to quote removal of the debris.Do I have to be home?
No, however it is definitely preferable you are there to discuss the job before hand and inspect the job afterwards. If you are not home, I ask that you be available by phone.Do I have to wait all day for you to show up?
No. I schedule a 2 hour window of when to expect me. I can also text you my precise ETA about 20 minutes prior to arrival.Do you work evenings or weekends?
Yes -both. I also work year round. I do try to avoid bitter cold and rainy days. I can not work in darkness or lightening storms. What payment methods do you accept?
Cash, Venmo, Zelle, and local checks. I do not accept any credit cards. Payment is expected upon completion of the job.Are you insured?
Yes. Unlike many in this business who just say they are insured, I actually am insured. I carry a $2M liability policy with $1M coverage per location. I always have current certificates of insurance and will gladly show them to you.
